Tamoxifen is in a class of medicine known as anti estrogens. Generic Tamoxifen tablet blocks the activity of estrogens in the breast. This may stop the growth of some breast tumours that need estrogens to grow. Tamoxifen ingredient medicine is used to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at high risk for the disease due to their age, personal medical history, and family medical history. it treats breast cancer in men and women. Tamoxifen cannot be used by pregnant women it could harm the unborn baby.

Tamoxifen comes in form of tablets taken by mouth, once or twice a day with or without food.

The following side effects are common (occurring in greater than 30%) for patients taking Tamoxifen:

Loss of libido (particularly in men) (see sexuality)

Swelling (fluid retention in feet, ankles, or hands)

Menstrual irregularities

Vaginal bleeding

Weight loss
