Dapoxetine is a unique medication used to address men’s sexual health problem especially premature ejaculation and to some extent erectile dysfunction. This drug belongs to a medicinal category called short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).

While SSRI drugs are typically used as antidepressants, it is not unusual to prescribe them for premature ejaculation issues of men. In the issue of premature ejaculation a man comes too quickly and ejaculates sooner than he is required by himself or his sexual partner. Premature ejaculation (PE) is said to affect 20% of men across the USA aging 18-59. Though the problem is said to be psychological, it can also be biological.

The recommended starting dosage in most of the cases of premature ejaculation is 30 to 60 mg a day. The dosage should not be exceeded than this and there should be a gap of minimum 24hr between two dosages. Experts recommend taking the pill of dapoxetine 1-3 hour prior to having sex. This gives the best results then.

The side effects of dapoxetine include sleepiness or dizziness. And thus, it is not recommended to operate heavy machinery or driving a vehicle. Alcohol increases risks of side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness and fainting. Also, there are chances of a drop in blood pressure.

Severe uneasiness, increased heartbeat, severe dizziness, convulsions, shortness of breath, confusion, or sweating is warning signs that require immediate medical attention.
